Fishing

With our extensive lakes and rivers set in the attractive, tranquil haven of the Kennet Valley, Wasing has a fishery of which we are very proud.

Great care is taken to preserve and enhance the rural charm through a comprehensive management and bailiffing system which maintains the fishery, its environment, wildlife and privacy. What sets us apart from other fisheries, is the sheer tranquility set in a natural environment. At Wasing you will find abundant wildlife, but you may not see another soul.

Many of the waters are Sites of Special Scientific Interest, some are sited within the listed park of Wasing Place and others are in unspoilt countryside. All the fishing is subject to state-of-the-art locked gates to which members have keys which are replaced annually.

Membership of any of our syndicates is highly exclusive and all new members are vetted. There are no day tickets available on our waters.

We are able to boast record sized catches of Barbel, Chub, Pike and Perch, on the beats of the River Kennet. The Predator Lake, otherwise known as Rowney Lake, is a large 40-acre lake with depths of up to 25 feet; in which there are big Pike to 35lbs, and record Perch up to 51/2lbs. Our other lakes are stocked with Carp and Tench, some of which are also approaching record sizes including an infamous 54lb Carp called Parrotface!

We run all of the fishing syndicates ourselves. The fishery is managed by our Head Keeper & Fisheries Manager John Butler, along with our team of sixteen bailiffs. If you are interested in becoming a member John will be delighted to show you round at your convenience.

For full details of the fishery, please download the Fishery Memberships pdfs at the bottom of the page.

The Latest Fishing News at Wasing - Spring 2011...

Another bitterly cold winter with frozen waters nationwide led to a fishing free Christmas for our members here at Wasing. Aside from patrolling bailiffs and the odd hopefully longing member wandering round the icy lakes, the fisheries seemed eerily quiet throughout November & December…

However, the recent hints of spring in the air have breathed life back into the whole Estate, both in our woods and countryside, and in our fishermen. The first of the warmer weekends saw bivvies going up in many a swim, and the fisheries teaming with life once again. As is the case everywhere, many of our fishermen are secretive, cagey creatures who keep their catch reports to themselves – however, the rumours trickling down the grape vine suggest that our fish have survived the winter well, and that Bottle Lake in particular has been throwing some great carp.

One catch certainly worthy of mention is the 22lb 3oz pike shown to the right, bagged on Rowney Lake by new member Nigel Pugh back in October - a fighting fit fish and certainly a fine Wasing specimen!

And with the summer not so far away, we have now finalised details on the new season for the Rowneys Summer Carp Syndicate – once again open only to current Wasing members, we are offering 17 weeks this summer to fish for never-before-caught carp in our giant Predator Lake. Mr. Britt’s success last summer with the stunning 36 ¾ lb common pictured in the gallery below has set the standard high, and we will once again be offering free membership to the summer 2012 syndicate for the largest officially reported carp. Memberships will be capped at 40, and we have had a good bit of interest so far – so anyone else who may be interested please phone Rosie in the office on 01189 714140 asap!
