Minerals
Wasing Estate has an excellent quality mineral resource under the land. Gravel extraction has been one of the key reasons for our survival at our current size. Without it, Wasing would have been divided up into many different parcels and ownerships.
The Estate is promoting further sites notably at Wasing Lower Farm, between Woolhampton and Aldermaston, to the review of the Minerals Development plan being undertaken in Berkshire by the Joint Strategic Planning Unit. Our latest submissions to the JSPU consultation process can be accessed by clicking on the links below.
If and when a gravel extraction site is designated as a preferred area in the development plan it must still be the subject of a planning application. With the level of demand for gravel in the local area, the ability to have a local supply is critical in minimising environmental damage which is why we believe Wasing offers a beneficial site for future extraction.
Today, proximity to market is a fundamental consideration to minimise environmental harm. Any extraction is done with as much care as possible for the environment and the local area. Once gravel is extracted, the area is carefully restored, and Wasing's objectives are always significant environmental gain in restoration.
