The Estate has two areas designated by the government as SSSI’s (Sites of Special Scientific Interest).
The designation sets out what may not be done on the land and what the designation is designed to protect. Both the sites at Wasing require significant work annually to maintain and improve the habitats in these areas for dragon flies, and Desmoulin's Whorl Snail.
